Our Story
Home & Abroad began with a feeling almost everyone who has ever left home knows.
That strange moment before departure, when everything still looks familiar, but somehow already feels different. The suitcase is packed. The goodbye has been said. The airport doors open. And somewhere between excitement and fear, you realise that you are about to leave one version of your life behind.
For a weekend, a semester, a year, or perhaps much longer.
Travel is often presented as movement. New countries. New cities. New faces. New experiences. But the journeys that stay with us are rarely just about where we went. They are about who we became while we were away.
They are about the first night in a place that doesn’t yet feel like home. The unfamiliar streets that slowly become yours. The people who begin as strangers and somehow become family. The train tickets kept in a drawer. The airport coffee before an early flight. The photographs that make no sense to anyone else but mean everything to you.
And then there is the strange reality of living between two worlds.
You begin to miss things you never thought you would miss. A certain meal. A bedroom. A voice. A street. A language. A routine. At the same time, you begin creating another home somewhere else.
That tension between home and abroad became the starting point of everything.
We wanted to create a brand for people who understand that feeling.
Not simply products for travelling, but objects that become part of the journey itself.
Things you carry because they mean something.
Things that become better because they have been places with you.
Things that collect stories.
That idea eventually became Buddy Abroad.
A simple travel companion created for meaningful departures.
Something familiar to take into an unfamiliar place.
A companion that could sit beside you on a plane, appear in photographs from across the world, live in a student bedroom thousands of kilometres from home, and slowly become connected to the memories of that period of your life.
But we wanted Buddy Abroad to tell more than one story.
So we added patches.
Each country becomes something you can physically collect. A place you have lived, visited, studied, discovered or simply fallen in love with.
One patch can represent months of memories.
A first exchange year.
A summer abroad.
A city that changed you.
A country where you met someone important.
A place you once called home.
That is why personalization sits at the heart of Home & Abroad.
Your journey should never look exactly like someone else’s.
The Velcro system was created around that idea: allowing every Home & Abroad product to evolve with the person carrying it.
Today it starts with Buddy Abroad.
Tomorrow it can live on hoodies, bags, caps and travel essentials.
Different objects, one common language:
the places that shaped you.
Home & Abroad was never intended to become another souvenir brand.
We are not interested in disposable travel objects bought at an airport and forgotten in a drawer.
We believe memories deserve better than that.
We want to create pieces that feel considered, beautiful and lasting. Products you are proud to carry, wear, photograph and keep long after the journey itself has ended.
That is why the brand sits somewhere between travel and lifestyle.
Between emotion and design.
Between nostalgia and anticipation.
Between where you come from and where you are going next.
We design for the student leaving home for the first time.
For the friend giving someone a goodbye present before a year abroad.
For the person building a new life in another country.
For the traveller who keeps boarding passes, photographs and little reminders of everywhere they have been.
For anyone who has ever realised that travelling is not simply something they do.
It becomes part of who they are.
And perhaps that is what Home & Abroad is really about.
Identity.
The more places we experience, the more pieces of them we carry with us.
A little language.
A little culture.
A little nostalgia.
A little confidence.
A few people we never expected to meet.
And memories that quietly follow us home.
We believe leaving changes you.
Sometimes beautifully.
Sometimes painfully.
Usually both.
But there is something extraordinary about stepping away from everything familiar and discovering what remains when you do.
Home & Abroad exists for that exact moment.
For the departure.
For the distance.
For the discovery.
For the memories.
For the return.
And eventually, for the next departure again.
We are building Home & Abroad as a global travel lifestyle brand for a generation that does not simply want to see the world, but wants to feel connected to the places it experiences.
A brand made by travellers, for travellers.
A brand for people who understand that home is not always one place.
Sometimes it is a person.
Sometimes it is a memory.
Sometimes it is somewhere thousands of kilometres away.
And sometimes, after travelling long enough, you realise you can carry pieces of home with you wherever you go.
Home & Abroad.
Made for those who leave.
Carry your journey.
Keep home close.
